The desperate need for an increase in disability compensation pay is something veterans and advocates have spoken out about for many years. In the last 12 years, the annual VA cost of living adjustments have ranged from 0.0% – 3.6%, averaging out at 1.5%. We probably don’t have to tell you that those increases have in no way adequately kept up with cost of living increases and inflation.
For 2022, the VA will increase disability compensation by 5.9%, the largest increase in a very long time! Starting on December 1, 2021, the VA will adjust the monthly compensation amounts to reflect this increase. Veterans can start collecting as of December 31, 2021.
This is great news for veterans! You can find out what your adjusted 2022 monthly payment will be by multiplying your current monthly payment by 0.059 (5.9%) and adding that amount onto your payment OR by using the 2022 updated VA monthly pay charts below.
Example: Monthly compensation is $500.00. Multiply 500 x 0.059 =29.50. Add 29.50 onto 500 = $529.50 is new 2022 monthly payment with the 5.9% increase.
